About Cool Wave Car Wash

Located at 12570 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA 23606, Cool Wave Car Wash operates as a car wash serving Newport News in Virginia. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

Car washes in the United States come in four main formats: the express tunnel, where you stay in the car while a conveyor pulls it through brushes or high-pressure jets; the full-service wash, where attendants vacuum and wipe down the interior after the tunnel; the self-service bay with a coin or card-operated pressure wand, foam brush and vacuums; and the hand wash, where a crew washes and dries the car by hand. Touchless tunnels skip the cloth brushes entirely and rely on chemicals and water pressure, which is gentler on paint but less effective on heavy grime. Most express chains sell an unlimited monthly plan, usually priced at two to three single washes, that is only worth it if you wash more than twice a month. Gas stations often bundle a discounted wash with a fill-up.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 7:30 am–8 pm. Newport News is in Virginia, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Newport News is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Virginia's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

The self service bays are a disaster. Requested a call back for a refund. The first TWO bays I tried didn’t take my card, and when I finally moved to a bay that accepted my card, almost none of the features worked. The different guns allocated for different cleaning products did not work- and the β€œhigh pressure soap” came out for two seconds and then switched to regular water. There was also water dripping onto my vehicle from the ceiling the entire time- this business is clearly neglected and needs new management and a renovation, so that all of their utilities can actually be functional. If all the features in a cleaning bay do not work- it should be closed to the public. Do not go here if you want a high quality car cleaning experience- a total let down for anyone in the surrounding community.

Definitely not the best. Self service was arguably a scam if you don't already have a plan of action. Probably better to just use the automated car wash. Car came out pretty damn clean though. Ended up spending about 30 for a self car wash and vacuum. Take with that what you will.

Update: they gave me a code for top wash. I will update after I use the code to see if it works. --------‐----‐---------------------------------------------‐------‐--- Awful...Do NOT go to the one on Warwick Blvd... paid 25$ just to get a rinse and everything stopped. I had to go home and rinse whatever soap was in the rinse, it left my car with streaks, etc. There was no attendant there to service, no call back from Cool Wave to date. Left messages, text messages, etc. I will update post if they ever call me back and make it right. Otherwise, they will not get my service again.

I've been using this car wash for decades. Probably, 20 years. I've paid for anywhere between 2-4 monthly subscriptions for the past 2-3 year's, consistently. The subscription has been broken for the past 4-6 weeks and their management has NO ETA when it will be resolved. What's going on with Cool Wave????? I see similar complaints at the other locations. Seems to be under severely poor and absent management, now.

After the latest snowmageddon, I was looking for a touchless car wash to clean all the salt off my car and rinse off the undercarriage. There were several options, at different price points. I figured I should probably go big or go home. So $19 wash my payment. I expected a pretty decent job. I don’t expect perfection or even close. I know that’s not possible without a little elbow grease. Anyway, $19 later, my car actually looks worse. Yes, it looks worse than when it started. The water ran down the side of my car. So, now I have lots of vertical first stripes from water running down my car and waxed mud on my trunk lid. There is one small plus side. It is a nice-looking clean facility in an otherwise kinda sketchy area.
